The Bhutanese people believe that King Jigme Singye Wangchuck is the realization of a religious prophesy which was declared more than three centuries ago, a sacred reincarnation destined to safeguard the nation and take care of his people. As a Prince, Jigme Singye Wangchuck travelled the length and breadth of the country with his father, coming to know the land first hand and developing close personal bonds with the people. In May, 1972, he became the Trongsa ponlop. In 1972 the clergy, government, and people of Bhutan declared King Jigme Singye Wangchuck the fourth Druk Gyalpo.

 Prime Ministers of Bhutan – As per the vision of His Majesty Fourth Drukgyalpo King Jigme Singye Wangchuk,  Bhutan conducted its first democratic elections in 2008 for five years term. Since then, Bhutan has held its third consecutive peaceful election in 2018. Bhutan will see fourth election in 2023.

First Prime Minister of Bhutan – Dasho Jigme Yozer Thinley is the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Bhutan. He held the office from April 2008 to April 2013.
